Transitional Kindergarten is the first of a two-year kindergarten program designed for students whose birthdays fall between September 2 and December 2. Transitional Kindergarten is designed to encourage oral language development and offers children many hands-on opportunities for learning and to benefit from the "gift of time" in the classroom setting.  For the 2012-13 school year, the Downey Unified School District will offer Transitional Kindergarten (TK) in several schools across the District for children who will reach age five November 2 through December 2.
