Inter and Intra District Permit Applications
The Downey Unified School District (DUSD) will consider requests on an individual
basis for permission to attend or change to a school other than the one that serves the area of
the pupil's residence. The District welcomes motivated students interested in receiving a

Inter-District Permit (non-DUSD residents) - To enter a DUSD school if you live in another district
A permit from another school district to attend a school in the Downey district shall be approved by the principal of the receiving school and renewed annually. Permits must be issued from the district of residence and will be placed on file with the Director of Pupil Services of the Downey Unified School District.
Intra-District Permit and School of Choice Permit (for DUSD residents only)
Students who reside within the DUSD boundaries may apply to attend another school within the DUSD boundaries by completing an application for an Intra-District permit or a School of Choice permit.
1. School of Choice - Open Enrollment: (Available during the month of February only)
The School of Choice application form can only be submitted each year in February during the open enrollment period. Applications must be submitted in person to the office of the Director of Pupil Services. Applications will become available at the District office and any Downey school during the open enrollment period only.
2. Intra-District Permit
Shall be approved by the principal of the school of residence and the principal of the receiving school and must be renewed annually. You can apply for this permit at any time during the school year.
Please note that any permit may be revoked by the District and the student returned to the school or district of residence due to excessive enrollment at the school of choice, unsatisfactory attendance, or unsatisfactory behavior.
